Lineage Of The Papacy - There Were No Popes Until 600 A.D.

Prior to 600 A.D. there was no Pope or evidence one existed:  There were Bishops or overseers at many cities of the Roman empire - Constantinople, Rome, Eugubiom, Rhegium, and Alexandria.

Catholic Christian Understanding: "Documents Illustrating Papal Authority 96 - 454 AD" by Edward Giles, again a Protestant scholar and well respected, addresses the lineage of the Papacy from Peter to his present time.  In his work, and many historical records, it is indisputable that all bishops recognized the Bishop of Rome as the final authority.  Giles shows tons of evidence of this, specifically when Constantinople and Antioch would have a disagreement on a doctrine of Jesus Christ, or anything of importance, they always appealed to the Bishop of Rome to settle the dispute. 

Prior to 600 A.D. there is abundant evidence that the Bishop of Rome was the ultimate authority over the Church.  The reason I recommend "Documents Illustrating Papal Authority AD 96 - 454" by Edward Giles is because he specifically is a very renowned and respected Protestant researcher and preacher, and he lays it all out perfectly.  The history of the Popes since Peter and Christ are as follows:
